Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a frontal attack against Channel 12, which he dubbed "Panic 12", and exposed the channel's manipulative operating methods in its coverage of the Jerusalem Mountains fire. Netanyahu accused journalists Amnon Abramovitch and Guy Peleg, whom he called "propagandists", of a deliberate attempt to engineer consciousness and establish a false narrative of failure.
"The propagandists Amnon Abramovitch and Guy Peleg from 'Panic 12' are again trying to engineer consciousness and establish a narrative of failure in handling the fire in the Jerusalem Mountains", Netanyahu wrote on social network X. "The opposite is true – it was a most impressive achievement".
The Prime Minister presented proven facts that contradict Channel 12's false narrative. According to him, within just 24 hours, firefighting forces managed to contain the massive fire despite extreme weather conditions, and most importantly – without loss of life. He expressed appreciation to the brave firefighters, police, Magen David Adom, IDF, KKL workers, the Fire and Rescue Authority, and numerous volunteers for their professional work.
Netanyahu revealed that immediately upon the outbreak of the fire, he instructed to contact various countries for aerial assistance if needed. In response to the false information spread by Channel 12, the Prime Minister clarified: "Contrary to what Channel 12's propagandists and their leftist partners say, not only did we not cut the firefighting budget, but we doubled it by more than a billion shekels".
Netanyahu further revealed that after the Carmel fire, a firefighting squadron was established that has extinguished hundreds of fires across the country to date. "And here's another amazing fact that the panic channels are hiding from you – Israel has the most firefighting aircraft in the world relative to population size", the Prime Minister emphasized.
"Fake news is one thing, reality is another", Netanyahu concluded his sharp response to Channel 12's spreading of lies.
The Prime Minister's serious accusations against Channel 12 expose the channel's systematic operation to spread false information and mislead the public. The continued use of the term "Panic 12" emphasizes the severity of damage the channel causes to public discourse through spreading false information.
Netanyahu presented proven data refuting Channel 12's false claims about cuts in the firefighting budget, when in fact the budget was doubled by more than a billion shekels, and Israel holds the world's largest fleet of firefighting aircraft relative to population.
The Prime Minister's current attack on Channel 12 joins a series of cases where the channel's manipulative operating methods have been exposed, preferring political propaganda over reliable and fair journalism.
