Major General Eyal Zamir, IDF Chief of Staff, conducted a central situation assessment this morning with members of the General Staff Forum ahead of the Sukkot holiday. Following the assessment, the Chief of Staff ordered the alert level in the IDF to be raised to the highest level, according to an IDF Spokesperson announcement released today.

As part of the decisions made during the situation assessment, the Chief of Staff directed that defensive efforts will constitute the IDF's primary effort until the end of the holiday period. Alongside raising the alert level, Major General Zamir ordered comprehensive drills of all forces before the holiday begins, including position and defense briefings for all operational elements.

The Chief of Staff instructed IDF forces to focus on central missions and to refine the integration of reinforcement forces across all sectors. Within the operational directives, the Chief of Staff ordered the Air Force to maintain rapid readiness and high alert for defense and offense across all sectors, with particular focus on the Gaza Strip.

In the context of protecting Israeli civilians during the holiday period, Major General Zamir directed the enhancement of approval and security protocols for events and festivals to be held during Sukkot. Additionally, the Chief of Staff emphasized operational priorities for all seam zones, border areas, and vulnerable points.

The Chief of Staff emphasized to members of the General Staff Forum that there is no change in the IDF's multi-arena situation assessment, and that the directives issued are part of the standard heightened readiness for the holiday period. However, raising the alert level to maximum indicates the senior command's desire to prepare for any possible scenario.

At the conclusion of the situation assessment, Major General Zamir addressed the significance of the directives and stated that the IDF is in constant readiness and prepared across all theaters of combat for defense and offense. The Chief of Staff emphasized that the IDF continues its mission to enable all the people of Israel to observe the Sukkot holiday in peace and security.

The decision to raise the alert level to maximum comes as the IDF continues to operate on multiple fronts simultaneously, with operational efforts focused on several sectors around Israel. The comprehensive drills of forces and special briefings ordered by the Chief of Staff are designed to ensure all forces are prepared to respond rapidly to any possible incident during the holiday period.
