Defense Minister Israel Katz published last night (Thursday) a sharp and unprecedented threat against the leader of the Houthi movement in Yemen, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, in which he promised that the Yemeni leader's days are numbered. In a post published on the minister's official X social media account, Katz wrote: "Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, your time will come. You will be sent to meet your entire cabinet and all the terrorists of the axis of evil who are waiting in the depths of hell".

The Defense Minister's threat came against the backdrop of the ongoing confrontation between Israel and the Houthi movement, which is associated with Iran and its proxies in the region. The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen including the capital Sanaa, have launched dozens of missiles and drones toward Israel since the outbreak of the Iron Swords War, while declaring support for Hamas and Gaza.

Continuing his remarks, Katz addressed the famous Houthi slogan written on their flag: "Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse upon the Jews, Victory to Islam". The minister claimed that "the slogan 'Death to Israel, Curse upon the Jews' written on the Houthi flag will be replaced by the blue and white Israeli flag that will wave in the capital of united Yemen".

The wording of the Defense Minister's threat raises many questions regarding Israel's future intentions in the Yemeni sphere. Is this merely a rhetorical statement, or is Israel considering more extensive military operations against the Houthis? The use of the phrase "united Yemen" may hint at possible Israeli support for forces opposing Houthi rule in the north of the country, although no official clarification has been provided on this matter.

Katz's publication comes at a particularly sensitive time, as Israel is leading a large-scale campaign against Iran's proxy terror organizations. The country has been operating for many months against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, conducted an extensive military operation in Lebanon against Hezbollah, and attacked targets in several countries where Iranian representatives and proxies operate.

The Houthi movement, also known as "Ansar Allah" (Supporters of God), has controlled northern Yemen since 2014 and has since been waging a bloody civil war against the internationally recognized government and against coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia. In recent years, the organization has become a central force in the Iranian axis, developing particularly advanced military capabilities in the fields of missiles and drones.

The Defense Minister's threat joins a series of Israeli statements and actions against the Houthis. The Israel Defense Forces has attacked several targets in Yemen in recent months, including ports, energy infrastructure, and weapons facilities. The Israeli strikes, some carried out from a range of thousands of kilometers, demonstrated Israel's military capability to reach anywhere in the region.

It should be emphasized that the minister's words raise real concern about further escalation in the turbulent Middle East region. Yemen, which has been mired in an ongoing humanitarian crisis for many years, could become another arena of confrontation within the broader campaign between Israel and entities associated with Iran. Whether Katz's statement reflects an official policy line or is a one-time remark – this question remains unanswered for now by senior officials in Israel's political and security establishment.
