The IDF announced today the death of Sergeant Yair Eliyahou, 19, from Ezer, a combat engineer in the Northern Brigade, who fell in battle in northern Gaza Strip. The announcement of his death was delivered to his family and his name has been cleared for publication.

Eliyahou, who fell on the 8th of Tammuz 5785 (July 4, 2025), served as a fighter in the Combat Engineering Corps in the Northern Brigade. In recognition of his actions and service, he was posthumously promoted from the rank of Staff Sergeant to Sergeant.

This concerns a young soldier who dedicated his life to serving his homeland as part of the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip. His service in the Combat Engineering Corps placed him at the forefront of military activity in the region, where unit fighters carry out particularly complex and dangerous missions.

The settlement of Ezer, the fallen soldier's place of residence, numbers several hundred residents and is located in the southern region. The family and local community are coping with the heavy loss, with the IDF announcing it will continue to accompany the bereaved family during this difficult period.

Eliyahou's death joins the list of soldiers who have fallen during the fighting in the Gaza Strip. The Combat Engineering Corps, in which he served, plays a central role in military operations in the region, with its fighters specializing in explosive ordnance disposal, road breaching, and complex engineering tasks in hostile territory.

The IDF announced that it "shares the family's grief and will continue to accompany them" during this period. The family and Israeli community mourn the loss of the young soldier, whose life was cut short while fulfilling his duty in service of the state.

This is an additional loss within the framework of the ongoing fighting, emphasizing the heavy price paid by IDF soldiers in defending the state and its citizens.
