The IDF Spokesperson announced today that Master Sergeant Galeb Suleiman al-Nasasra, 35, from Rahat, fell yesterday (April 19, 2025) in battle in the northern Gaza Strip. Al-Nasasra served as a tracker in the Northern Brigade of the Gaza Division and was posthumously promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant.
According to the statement released, al-Nasasra fell during an operational activity in the northern part of the Strip. Official notification of his death was delivered yesterday to his family at their home in Rahat.
Master Sergeant al-Nasasra was among the most experienced trackers of the Northern Brigade, a role requiring special skills in reading tracks and identifying signs in the field. Trackers in the IDF, most of whom are from the Bedouin population, are considered vital to operational activities along borders and in various combat zones due to their deep familiarity with the terrain and their unique training.
His commanders report that al-Nasasra was highly respected among his unit members and was known for his great professionalism and rich field experience. During his service, he participated in numerous significant operations, where his contribution was critical to their success.
In recent years, the Northern Brigade's activities focused on the northern Gaza area, a region characterized by complex terrain and many operational challenges. The trackers, including al-Nasasra, were an integral part of the forces operating in the area.
IDF sources note that the activity in which al-Nasasra participated was part of an ongoing effort to secure the area and prevent hostile activity. In recent days, several security incidents have been reported in the northern Gaza area, but additional details regarding the exact circumstances in which al-Nasasra fell have not yet been provided.
The IDF Spokesperson stated that the IDF shares in the family's grief and will continue to support them during this difficult period. The announcement also noted that al-Nasasra was promoted from the rank of Sergeant Major to Master Sergeant after his death, in recognition of his service and contribution.
The death of al-Nasasra is the latest loss in a series of security incidents that have recently occurred in the region. The Israel Defense Forces continue to operate in all sectors to protect the citizens of the State of Israel and ensure their safety and security.
